JOB DESCRIPTION

The cardiothoracic intensive care nurse works in a highly specialized cardiothoracic intensive care unit (ICU) catering to the needs of patients requiring constant monitoring and whose clinical conditions are considered critical. 

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

• Adept at noting subtle hemodynamic changes that could lead to serious complications and providing immediate interventions as required
• Comfortable in operating and managing complex medical equipment such as ventilators and telemetry monitors
• Works closely with physicians and unlicensed assistive personnel
• Quickly and accurately assess patient care needs
• Work collaboratively with doctors and staff to provide exceptional care
• Diagnose and develop treatment plans collaboratively with doctors and staff
• Manage multiple cases simultaneously, prioritizing needs continually
• Comply with all legal and safety requirements at all times
• Maintain a clean, sanitary, and organized work environment
• Work at maximum efficiency without compromising quality of care
• Abide by all hospital rules and regulations
• Act in a composed and professional manner, especially under pressure
• Monitor coworkers and voice concerns to minimize errors
• Provide follow up care instructions to patients and make necessary referrals
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient charts
• Attend all required training and continuing education events

REQUIREMENTS 

• At least one year of acute care RN experience in an ICU or two years of Stepdown
• Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing
• Current New York State RN license (or willingness to obtain)
• BCLS certification
