JOB DESCRIPTION

Responsible for the diagnosis and treatment of medical diseases and conditions, as well as the provision of medical care in Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery, in accordance with current medical staff bylaws, rules and regulations and the hospital's policies and procedures. The role shall involve both clinical ENT duties and Head of Department work. 

 

HEAD OF DEPARTMENT RESPONSIBILITIES

Role Model

  • Shall be a role model in reflecting our core values and communicates and expects the team members to hold to the same standard. 

Operational

  • Facilitate department meetings as needed.  Develop and monitor a monthly schedule for the Department. 
  • Monitor overall department productivity and counsel those physicians, where WRVU activity has declined.
  • Advocate for the capital, equipment,and personnel needed to effectively run the department including developing and updating department policies and procedures.

Performance Management

  • Clarify performance expectations on an ongoing basis, as well as providing meaningful frequent feedback
  • Assess individual yearly performance. Implement and monitor performance improvement plans where required.

Learning & Development

  • Promote and monitor professional development within the department. To offer support and advice to members of the department and encourage their professional development.

Audit/Quality

  • Oversee the quality and appropriateness of health care provided and report and actively resolve any identified deficiencies in the quality of patient care.
  • Develop relevant quality and performance metrics/indicators for the department and a method of tracking, trending and reporting them. 
  • Ensure that the department is in compliance with all regulatory and accreditation requirements by reviewing and updating as necessary departmental policies, bylaws, rules and regulations. 

 

OTOLARYNGOLOGY RESPONSIBILITIES

Clinical Responsibilities

  • Provides required patient care and management in Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery in accordance with standards of medical care laid down by hospital.
  • Assumes responsibility for patients under his care. Liaises with various support service departments and medical specializations to provide appropriate and timely medical care, in accordance with the standards laid down by hospital.
  • Complies with all hospital standards and policies pertaining to acceptance, eligibility, admission processes,   consultation,   daily   patient   care,   operating   room,   outpatient   practices,  and   patient discharge.
  • Admits patients, initiates investigations and ensures findings are recorded. Assesses patients’ diseases or conditions to determine appropriate therapeutic modalities/ procedures.
  • Conducts ward rounds as per policy and reassesses inpatients under care. Documents findings in medical records.
  • Ensures appropriate patient preparation for procedures/ surgery and performs procedures/ surgery as indicated in the signed clinical privilege form
  • Follows up on investigation results for inpatients and outpatients and modifies treatment accordingly.
  • Attends specialty clinics, outpatient clinics, day surgical units, day medical units, special procedures, treatment areas and shares on- call schedule as per requirements.
  • Performs any other clinical responsibilities, as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must have graduated from a recognized medical school.
  • Certified in medical specialty by an approved Specialty Board.
  • American board in Specialty/Fellowship program in your country of origin.
  • Ensure all patients and relatives are treated with respect and dignity at all times.
  • Works efficiently and is able to respond to challenging and stressful situations.
