Sonographer/Radiographer - Maternal Fetal Medicine (High Risk) (Ref#010)

JOB DESCRIPTION

The MFM Radiographer/Sonographer is responsible for taking all out-patient and in-patient x-rays and sonograms including portable x-rays and assisting in radiological procedures. This person is also responsible for the archiving of films if required.

Is always expected to be well dressed, well groomed, and provide an excellent customer service delivery to all visitors coming to the hospital lobby area, such as patients, relatives, job candidates and Hospital staff members, and responsible for providing all the  services  in an effective and efficient manner.  Is expected to conduct and behave in a professional and respectful manner at all times. 

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assessing patients and their clinical requirements to determine appropriate ultrasound techniques. This includes discussing for patients with the MFM/Obstetrician to determine any extra required examinations.
  • Performing ultrasound examinations on patients to produce high-quality images.
  • Observing and maintaining contact with patients during their waiting, examination and post-examination stay in the department.
  • Taking responsibility for radiation/electrical safety in your work area including checking equipment for malfunctions/errors, managing referrals to ensure patients receive a radiation dose/ultrasound dose as low as reasonably possible and safely supervising visiting staff and patients in radiation work areas.
  • Assisting in more complex radiological and MFM examinations working with Maternal Fetal Medicine and Obstetricians including Amniocentesis, Chorionic Villus Sampling, Fetal fluid aspiration/shunt placement and Fetal Blood Sampling/Transfusion
  • Providing support and reassurance to patients, taking into account their physical and psychological needs.
  • Paying close attention to detail, such as annotating images correctly if annotation is required, to prevent errors and completing documentation quickly and accurately.
  • Supervising assistant practitioners, students and other staff, and delivering appropriate education and training.
  • Understanding and observing health and safety at work and welfare issues, including ionising radiation regulations, to protect yourself and others.
  • Use the Obstetrics/MFM Electronic medical records system to capture patient data and report ultrasound findings and print the final reports after validation by the supervising MFM/Obstetrician.
  • Develop and maintain high standards of competency in skills, knowledge, acquired attitudes and behavior and shall work within current legislative and employers’ frameworks.
  • Actively engage in learning in a constant process of development through the integration of Continuing Professional Development in your day to day practice. CME is a requirement for Renewal of DOH License.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education: Bachelor/Diploma in Radiology NLT 3 years. 
  • Experience: 
    • At least 3 (preferably 5) years related working experience, 
    • Obstetrics Sonography experience
  • License: Must be DOH/DHA licensed or DOH passer or DOH exam exempted
