JOB DESCRIPTION

Responsible for the diagnosis and treatment of medical diseases and conditions, as well as the provision of medical care in the area of specialization, in accordance with current medical staff bylaws, rules and regulations and the medical group’s policies and procedures.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

  • ​Provides required patient care and management in the field of Family Medicine in accordance with standards of medical care laid down by Medical Group
  • Serve as the first point of call for patients
  • Work with the primary healthcare team to provide patients with primary medical care services within the standard of care
  • Participate in the process of identifying risks for serious or acute problems, and make plans to hinder their development/growth
  • Carry out primary mental screening and adjustments in medical procedures if required
  • Order laboratory and radiology tests and refer patients to specialists when appropriate and called for
  • Analyze reports, test results, medical records and examinations to diagnose condition of patients and propose treatment options
  • Prescribe pharmaceuticals, other medications, and treatment regimens to treat identified and documented medical conditions
  • Discuss potential side effects of medication/treatment with patients and ensure that all allergy information is up-to-date before prescribing medication/treatment
  • Provide advice to patients for lifestyle and diet changes that may improve their health or help to treat the health issue they are experiencing
  • Adhere to departmental policies, procedures and objectives, ongoing quality improvement objectives and safety, environmental, and infection control standards
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with all local health information privacy laws
  • Record complete, timely and legible medical records
  • Identify and refer patients to the appropriate specialist based on the nature of the ailment and the health need of patients

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Doctor of Medicine Degree from a recognized medical school
  • Seven (7) years of training in specialty plus postgraduate training experience required
  • Certified in medical specialty by an approved Specialty Board
  • Ideally an unrestricted APHRA practitioner holding a Fellowship with the Royal Australian College of General Practice
