JOB DESCRIPTION

Fire personnel will perform firefighting, rescue and Hazmat response. The company is keen on laying down a clear competency assurance program that

RESPONSIBILITIES 

• Serves as a member of firefighting and control crew operating in case of fire or emergency in assigned areas. Works under conditions of extreme personal hazards at any location within facility jurisdiction.
• Operate facility communications equipment, relay, and record information
• Recognize response hazards & safely use each piece of response equipment
• Clean, inspect & maintain all Fire appliances, equipment and maintain records
• To deploy covering materials, control extinguishing agents, and reduce water damage (salvage). 
• Follow facility evacuation routes, evaluate hazards and identify a safe haven
• Ability to operate fixed fire protection systems via electrical/ mechanical means
• Utilize master stream appliances, given an assignment, an extinguishing agent, and a master stream device, so that the agent is applied to the fire as desired. 
• Evaluate and forecast fire growth and development
• Operate & use the site water supply components & identify damage or impairment
• Establish water supply for fire-fighting operations, given a water source and tools, so that a water supply is established and maintained.
• Identify the components of the pre-fire and response considerations.
• Correctly don and doff thermal protective clothing and to perform assignments while wearing thermal protective clothing
• Control breathing, use SCBA in limited visibility conditions, replace SCBA air cylinders, use SCBA to exit through restricted passages, initiate and complete emergency procedures in the event of SCBA failure or air depletion, and complete donning procedures. Rescue a fire fighter with functioning respiratory protection, rescue a fire fighter whose respiratory protection is not functioning, rescue a person who has no respiratory protection, and assess areas to determine tenability.
• Ability to prevent water hammers when shutting down nozzles; open, close, and adjust nozzle flow and patterns; apply water using direct, indirect, and combination attacks; advance charged and uncharged 63 mm (21⁄2 in.) diameter and larger hoselines; extend hose lines; replace burst hose sections; operate charged hose lines of 63 mm (21⁄2 in.) diameter or larger; couple and uncouple various handline connections; carry hose; attack fires; and locate and suppress hidden fires.
• Deploy and operate an attack line, expose void spaces without compromising structural integrity, apply water for maximum effectiveness, expose & operate as a team member in vision-obscured conditions, locate & follow a guideline, conserve air supply, evaluate areas for hazards & identify safe haven.
• Site drawing reading, access procedures, forcible entry tools and procedures, and site-specific hazards, such as access to areas of restricted movement, fences, and walls. Procedures associated with special hazard areas such as electrical substation, radiation hazard areas, and others specific to the site if needed.
• Ability to prepare a foam concentrate supply for use, assemble foam stream components, master various foam application techniques, and approach and retreat from fires/spills as part of a coordinated team.
• Execute effective advances and retreats, apply various techniques for water application, assess gas storage container integrity and changing conditions, operate control valves, and choose effective procedures when conditions change.
• The ability to operate a special agent supply (example Hydro-Chem operations), master various special agents application techniques, and approach and retreat from hazardous areas as part of a coordinated team.
• Understand the different types of alarms, to implement the response, and to provide information through communications.
• Select and use the correct tools and equipment for various tasks, follow guidelines, and restore tools and equipment to service after use.
• Carry ladders, raise ladders, extend ladders and lock flies, determine that a wall and roof will support the ladder, judge extension ladder height requirements, and place the ladder to avoid obvious hazards.
• Safely create an opening & implement ventilation techniques.
• Communicate with mutual aid organizations and to integrate operational personnel into teams under a unified command.
• ability to operate hose testing equipment and nozzles and to record results.

Hazardous Materials

• Responds to hazardous materials/WMD incidents using a risk-based response process to analyze a problem involving hazardous materials/WMD, plan a response to the problem, implement the planned response, evaluate progress of the planned response and adjust as needed, and assist in terminating the incident.

Vehicle Rescue

• The ability to operate disentanglement tools, initiate protective measures, identify and eliminate points of entrapment, and maintain incident stability and scene safety (Vehicle rescue).
• The ability to identify entry and exit points and probable victim locations and assess and evaluate impact of vehicle stability on the victim (Vehicle rescue).

Rope Rescue

• Determine incident needs as related to choosing anchor systems, select effective knots, determine expected loads, evaluate incident operations as related to interference concerns and set-up, choose anchor points, perform a system safety check, and evaluate system components for compromised integrity.
• Select and use rescuer harness, a system for ascending / descending a fixed rope, and personal protective equipment for common environments; attach the life safety harness to the rope rescue system; configure ascent control devices to form a system for ascending a fixed rope; make connections to the ascending / descending system; manoeuvre around existing environment and system-specific obstacles; convert the ascending system to a descending system ( and vice versa) while suspended from the fixed rope; and evaluate surroundings for potential hazards.
• Choose patient transfer devices, select and use personal protective equipment appropriate to the conditions, attach a transfer device to the rope rescue system, reduce hazards for rescuers and victims, and determine specialized equipment needs for victim movement.
• Construct systems for rapid removal of victims from lanyards or rope or webbing, manage operation of the selected system, determine condition of the suspended victim, reduce hazards for rescuers and victims, and determine specialized equipment needs for victim movement.

Confined Space Rescue

• Use and confirm calibration of detection and monitoring equipment and acquire representative samples of space.
• Select and use personal protective equipment, select and operate rescue and retrieval systems used for victim removal, utilize medical equipment, and use equipment and procedures for decontamination.
• Select a specific pre-plan form; draft or draw a sketch of confined spaces; complete supplied forms; identify and evaluate various configurations of confined spaces, access points, entry openings, isolation procedures, and energy control locations; recognize general and site-specific hazards; document all data; and apply all regulatory compliance references.
• Utilize personal protective equipment, place scene control barriers, operate atmospheric monitoring equipment, isolate dangerous forms of energy, and mitigate physical and atmospheric hazards.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Minimum experience: 6 years 
• Oil & Gas experience is preferable 
• Meet minimum physical fitness abilities as per NFPA 158
• IFSAC/Pro-Boards Certification (or Equivalent JOIFF certification) required
