JOB DESCRIPTION

An anesthesiologist is responsible for administering and managing anesthesia given during a surgical procedure as well as managing and treating changes in the patient's vital functions as they are affected by the surgery, in a manner that is in accordance with current medical staff bylaws, rules, regulations, and all hospital policies and procedures.

 

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

  • Undertakes the administrative duties assigned by the Head of the Department.
  • Assists the department in the development and implementation of techniques and practices that help maximize the utilization of resources and quality of patient care.
  • Helps oversee and coordinate the efforts of the team of surgeons and nurses in the operating theater.
  • Adheres closely to the standards of cleanliness and surgical sterility established both by the hospital and by common practice.
  • Administers and manages anesthesia given during a surgical procedure.
  • Monitors patient’s vital signs during surgery and immediately responds to any critical changes.
  • Evaluates the patient's medical condition including medical history, lifestyle, and medications to formulate an anesthetic plan which takes that patient's physical condition into account.
  • Works to ease the pain and anxiety that a medical crisis causes a family through thorough education and counseling.
  • Complies with all hospital standards and policies pertaining to acceptance, eligibility, admissions process, consultation, daily patient care, operating room, and patient discharge. 
  • Stays compliant with all hospital regulations regarding required staff training.   
  • Documents all findings in medical records.
  • Assists in and promotes educational activities of junior staff, particularly within your department.
  • Keeps abreast with all the latest techniques and developments following and implementing them on a selective basis to improve technical standards.
  • Performs any other clinical responsibilities as assigned or required.

 

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED 

  • Must have graduated from a recognized medical school.
  • Certified in medical specialty by an approved Specialty Board.
  • American board in Specialty/Fellowship program in your country of origin.
  • Ability to work well in a team.
  • Ensure all patients and relatives are treated with respect and dignity at all times.
  • Works efficiently and is able to respond to challenging and stressful situations.
